Spaces in Mark: The Sea

This week, we continued our theme of space in Mark with a discussion of The Sea. Sam led us in a discussion of the Sea of Galilee and specifically the story of Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:35-41). Sam encouraged us to find the peace among the storms blowing around us as we make this journey together.

He adds near the end of his sermon:

The sea and the storm itself has a place in the good news of God’s vision for humanity being realized on the earth. The sea is the space that God calls us into to forge new paths and cross boundaries. The way across may not be direct. We are likely to encounter storms and encounter resistance. But we can learn from Jesus’s peaceful resolve in the power of God to control this creative and generative space. We can find assurance that we are in this boat together.
