Why I Am a Mennonite

On June 21st, Jonathan Halyalkar talked about his choice to be part of a Mennonite community in relation to fatherhood.

Inherent Inheritance, Colby Sanford

Jonathan begins with a reference to Proverbs 23 in which discipline is in the service of shaping a child to value truth. He contrasts instructions on fatherhood from Proverbs with his own story both of being parented, and of resulting choices.

Next Jonathan talks about the text of Acts 4: 23-37, and the challenge of Peter and John to the crowds they address after their release from prison. Peter talks about Jesus to the crowd, offering Christ’s redemption, available to all who repent — power to overcome sin and death. And Jonathan goes on to apply the passage to himself, as well as to his relationship with our community — and offers himself for ongoing discipleship.

Hear the audio as Jonathan offers insight into the Acts passage, offers his own life for correction, and offers his love of God the Father.
